WCT’s ‘Up the Numbers’ Campaign Gets Support from Accenture, Drives Women in Digital

OTTAWA; Aug. 30, 2016—Women in Communications and Technology’s “Up the Numbers” campaign has expanded to include Accenture (NYSE:ACN) as its newest supporter to increase the number and influence of women in Canada’s digital economy.

Up the Numbers is a new WCT program that enlists digital employers to report their metrics on the engagement of women in various roles and at various levels in their organizations.  Using this information, WCT provide an annual report establishing benchmarks on an industry-wide basis.  The report will provide guidance on opportunities for improvement and chart changes in gender ratios year over year.

“We are thrilled that Accenture is supporting WCT’s quest to see improvement in the engagement of women in digital industries.   Change rarely happens by accident.  Rather it is accomplished by knowing your current position and setting targets and strategies for improvement”, said Joanne Stanley, Executive Director, WCT.  “Accenture is an outstanding leader in engaging women.  It understands that what gets measured gets done.  Having a company of Accenture’s stature support us is a tremendous asset to our campaign.”

“At Accenture, we believe that by increasing transparency around diversity, we will foster a new level of collaboration and connection that will benefit our people, clients, partners and the communities where we live and work,” said Claudia Thompson, Managing Director, Human Capital & Diversity for Accenture in Canada.

Up the Numbers was founded in May, by Pythian Technologies and TELUS. The campaign works with companies, governments and academic institutions to establish best practices and strategies to recruit and advance women in the digital economy. The Up the Numbers initiative is currently recruiting other employers to join the core group of companies leading in gender diversity, to include a broader community of digital employers.

Accenture recently reported diversity statistics of its Canadian workforce of nearly 4,000 employees. The company is also the 2016 recipient of WCT’s Company of the Year Award recognizing Accenture Canada’s leadership and success in the advancement of women.
