Innovative mentoring program for women in communications and technology gets funding thumbs-up.

April 9th, 2019. Vancouver, BC - Vancouver women working in communications and technology will have more opportunities to find a mentor, or become a mentor themselves, in 2019 thanks to a collaboration between the Discovery Foundation and Women in Communications and Technology’s BC Chapter (WCTBC).

WCTBC has once again been selected as a 2019 Discovery Foundation Technology Education Program (TEP) agent to deliver its Speed Mentoring Program.

In 2018, WCTBC collaborated with the Discovery Foundation to run three Speed Mentoring events in Vancouver with the goal of breaking down barriers to mentorship for both mentors and mentees. The program attracted women, trans and non-binary people from entry-level to C-suite. All were seeking opportunities to either receive mentorship or to hone their mentoring skills. In addition to running the event series, WCTBC also published a guide on how to run a Speed Mentoring event to support other organizations to run their own Speed Mentoring events. WCTBC Co-Chair Briana Sim said she was delighted that the Speed Mentoring program would run again in 2019.

The first 2019 session of The Discovery Foundation’s Speed Mentoring Program in Collaboration with WCT will be held on Tuesday April 30 between 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm. For more details and to register, click here.
