WCT is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA). Through this collaboration, WCT and CHIMA bring together thousands of technology members across Canada to build a professional network for women in information management to succeed in their careers.
CHIMA is the national professional association for the health information industry in Canada, representing over 5,000 health information members from coast to coast to coast.
“CHIMA members are an integral part of health care decision-making in Canada,” says Jeff Nesbitt, CEO and Registrar of CHIMA. “Health informatics focuses on the technical infrastructure required to lead change in organizations and health systems. Health information is derived from the data collected through this infrastructure, and is then organized, protected, and evaluated. The result helps inform decisions that will impact the lives of Canadians,” Nesbitt adds.
As a cornerstone of this partnership, WCT members will receive a complimentary CHIMA affiliate membership, and CHIMA professional and affiliate members will receive a complimentary WCT membership. “We are pleased to offer WCT and CHIMA members the ability to tap into the resources and programming offered by both organizations,” says Joanne Stanley, Executive Director of WCT. “Expanding and diversifying professional networks is key to career advancement, and this partnership will help support that career growth for thousands of women across Canada.”
CHIMA shares WCT’s commitment to ensuring that women’s voices and perspectives are represented in their respective sectors. “CHIMA members are primarily women with careers in STEM—science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics,” says Betsy Nejat, Director of National Partnerships. “We want to ensure women have a seat at decision-making tables and that they feel empowered to speak to the value of the work they provide to the health information industry.”
WCT and CHIMA will explore opportunities for joint mentorship, coaching, and professional development. WCT members can stay tuned for announcements from WCT as these opportunities become available.
As the first step in this partnership, WCT and CHIMA are collaborating on a webinar on November 25, 2020. Three health information professionals certified with the Canadian College of Health Information Management will discuss the relevance of health information and the critical role that health information professionals provide to health care systems in Canada. Those interested in attending can register for the webinar on WCT’s website.
