Calling on men and women with experience in Nova Scotia’s Communications and Technology Sectors to join our new online mentoring initiative. As well, women in these sectors province-wide are encouraged to register for an experienced mentor to give them a career boost.
WCT NS thanks participants who have already registered for this new online Mentorship initiative. There is room for a few more, so we’re inviting more mentees and mentors to join in our initial cohort. Registration is extended to October 15th so those who missed the initial information, you still have time to sign up. Join us to kick start your career or move it upward with expert advice. Mentors share your experience with those following in your footsteps. It feels great to give back.
Be a mentor. Find a mentor. Better yet, do both!
The vast majority of successful people had mentors at some point and also became mentors themselves. If you are a female in Nova Scotia’s growing communications and technology industries, or planning to enter these growing sectors, you can now cast your net far and wide into an established professional network for guidance from someone who has experience travelling your path. If you are a seasoned ICT professional of any gender, wishing to give back by offering your experience to women following in your footsteps, sign up!
This online program is offered by Women in Communications and Technology Nova Scotia (WCT NS), the newest chapter of the Canada-wide WCT organization. Through the mentorship experience, women business owners, managers and leaders will have the voices of experience assisting them in acquiring the skill sets necessary to succeed in the ICT sector.
Women are a huge untapped pool of workers in a sector that needs more skilled talent, yet only represent 25% of employed ICT professionals. Mentorship is pivotal in increasing female representation in ICT industries.
"Twist & Bits is proud to sponsor WCT NS by providing an online mentorship tool developed specifically for Nova Scotia's female ICT professionals," says Ian Bezanson, T&B Managing Director. "What better way to support the province's ICT sector than providing WCT with a strategic mentorship tool developed locally by En Point, a mentorship organization."
“Mentorship is easy, effective and convenient online. Once matched, you and your mentor create your own schedules. The program overcomes time and travel barriers for both mentors and mentees in every corner of the province. It also supports the technology side of WCT,” says Emily Boucher, WCT NS co-chair and Manager, Communications and Strategic Partnerships for Techsploration. “Offering mentoring online makes participation flexible and available to a large number of Nova Scotia’s ICT community network.”
“Recognizing the isolation of rural entrepreneurs, work from home employees and other females craving guidance along their career paths”, says Laurie Sinclair, co- chair, WCT NS and Senior Business Advisor, High Growth Specialist, Mount Saint Vincent University’s Centre for Women in Business. “Our organization feels online mentoring will meet everyone’s needs. WCT NS is grateful to Halifax’s Twist & Bits for sponsoring the development of the software specific for this program.”
Mentor participation is free of charge. Mentee participation is free of charge to WCT members residing in Nova Scotia only. Anyone interested in becoming a member of WCT can join online at https://www.wct-fct.com/en/join-wct. Mentees are encouraged to register by August 30, 2019 for the first cohort.
